This was another one of those mainboards that we simply pulled out the box, threw on a CPU, Ram, and VidCard and never looked back. It worked exactly like it should have through all our testing and abuse. As noted before, we had to go out of our way with some oddball memory configuration to derail it. The ABIT IC7-MAX3 is without a doubt one of the quickest and most stable mainboards we have ever had bless our testbench.
Does this warrant an upgrade from a current i875P or 865PE board? No, of course not. Unless of course you must have the bleeding edge in performance and features as that is what the IC7-MAX3 delivers. I almost feel like I am saying too many "nice things" about the board, but it really just left me that impressed. The IC7-MAX3 truly reminded me of the ABIT boards from the BX chipset days. There were simply none better.
One of the features that have drawn much anticipation is the OTES adaptation to a mainboard. ABIT gets major points once again for innovating mainboard features. I did view all of the technical data supplied by ABIT and it was impressive. While we did not collect exact data on the cooling action working on the MOSFETS and Caps, it was obvious that the system was working as it was exhausting a good bit of heat. That is heat that will no longer be dumped into your case and helping heat up your drives and video card even more. Simply putting your hand on the bottom of the PCB, under the power components, will prove very quickly that OTES is doing its job. The OTES mainboard adaptation is simply a great idea that is twofold. Your power system is now, in most cases, running cooler than it would have been and your case temperatures are most likely coming down. Good things that any enthusiast will covet.
If you have been looking for a great overclocking board with more features than a new luxury sedan, the ABIT IC7-MAX3 should very likely be your first look and your last when making a mainboard purchase.
